Lycoris Radiata is a very unique lily and is known as the red spider lily, red magic lily, naked lily, Lady Dorothy or equinox flower and is a plant in the amaryllis family.  It has an eye catching unusual flower with a dramatic form and bright red color.  Foliage disappears in July and the blooms appear in September. After bloom is completed the foliage will reappear and will remain all winter.  If foliage pops up before the bloom there will be no flower for the year.   You seldom see these bulbs at nurseries; however I have seen them at Home Depot and they are available on many nursery catalogs.  There is another red spider lily that blooms about the same time as this one called the "Schoolhouse Red Spider Lily".
